The Unit’s event is available online. It was in the form of a pre-recorded short video clip followed by a panel discussion. The panel was hosted by Stephan de Beer and the panel members were: Melene Roussow, Raymond Perrier, Wayne Renkin, and Sasha Lalla. The poem at the start of the video is by the poet Emmah Mabye with the title The Unscripted Ones

An introduction to the film: Facing Homelessness In this pre-recorded presentation, the response of different South African cities (Durban, Cape Town, Msunduzi, Johannesburg, Richards Bay & Tshwane) to provide safe space to street homeless persons during Covid-19, will be showcased from the perspective of fault lines surfaced and gains made. It will show ‘the empowered civic’, both at work and obstructed, with resultant outcomes. The National Homeless Network will be introduced and the voices of activists/practitioners, homeless persons and academics will be heard.
